Interview with Vivian

What our students say
ESE - Theil Building

Hello, my name is Vivian, and I am 20 years old. I come from Greece, and I am a second year International Bachelor in Economics and Business Economics student.

Why did you choose this study programme?

There are multiple reasons why I chose this programme, which I think some are worth sharing. For quite some time I was debating between the programmes of Business Administration and Economics. However, the reason that has drawn me to Economics was its scientific nature. I wanted to kick off my career by a challenging degree that would improve and develop my mathematical, analytical, and economical skills. Looking at the IBEB curriculum I was immediately drawn to it. Because it combined all the fundamentals I was looking for, as well as the business type of courses. Another reason why I chose this study is due to its various career opportunities which allow me to choose any field or career that I am interested in (of course within a certain range!)

What is your favorite subject and/or favorite teacher?

My favorite subject over those two years was Organisation and Strategy, but also International Economics. I enjoyed both courses equally although each one of them fulfilled me in different ways.

What is the most interesting you learned so far?

The peak-end rule. It is the way people judge an experience largely based on how they felt at the most intense moment and at its end. This was something that I was taught in my first year, in the course of Behavioural Economics but it has still stayed with me until today, as I have seen applying it unconsciously to my daily life.

What is your favorite study-break spot on campus?

Most of the times, I like studying at the University library and that is why I do not usually go far from there! Therefore, a point where you would most likely catch me having a little break is Theil building.

What is your best tip for doing fun things in Rotterdam?

University, studying, and learning are very important; but don’t get me wrong here. The university years are supposed to be some of the most memorable years of our life. Hence my motto for fun activities is: never say “no” to a worth-taking opportunity. Make a clear-cut time schedule and combine your studies with the limitless fun adventures.
