Opportunities after graduating

What makes our alumni unique is that they are trained to understand an issue from an economic perspective and build an econometric model to put relevant questions to the test. With the double bachelor you will definitely encounter many fascinating issues during the course of your career. Depending on your specialisation and work area, you might be challenged to come up with answers to complex questions such as:

  • What are the risks of crashes of global stock markets?
  • How can we reduce waiting times in hospitals?
  • How can we use machine learning techniques to understand consumer behaviour?
  • How should the EU design economic policy?
  • What is needed for a stable banking system?

You may be involved in developing a model that allows an asset manager to exploit market anomalies, conduct a what-if-analysis regarding the effects of new government policies or develop algorithms for airlines and transportation companies to manage their timetables.

After completing this programme you will be well qualified to work in places such as:

  • Multinationals (in finance, marketing, logistics).
  • Banks, insurance companies or consultancy firms.
  • Government agencies, universities (international academic career).
  • International organisations like the OECD or the IMF.

Having a background in Economics as well as Econometrics gives you a substantial advantage in the (international) job market or for placement at prestigious research institutions such as the London School of Economics, the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge or Harvard. You are well suited to work for asset managers, investment banks and insurance companies. In addition, Central Banks (the ECB in Frankfurt, the German Bundesbank, the Dutch Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve), but also international consultants (PwC, EY, BCG) are keen on alumni from this programme. If marketing is your field, there are plenty of marketing research and consultancy firms or multinationals like Unilever or Procter & Gamble to start your career. Are you a logistics and operations research specialist? Just think about the airlines, transport authorities or oil companies. In addition, government agencies like the treasury department, or international organisations like the OECD or IMF always need people who are strong in both economics and econometrics. Our graduates often receive multiple job offers.
