Engels - Language & Training Centre (2017)

An assessment English is meant to determine your language proficiency and consist of an oral test, a written test and a computer-based test (QPT). You can use the assessment results to prove that you meet the needed language requirements for an exchange or for your master application. You can also use it to as proof of your language proficiency for your employer.  Please make sure to always check if this test is accepted by your study programme/faculty.

The next online English assessment will take place in:

  • Oral test: -
  • Written test: -
  • Quick Placement Test (QPT): -
  • Deadline: -

Please note: There are fixed dates and times for the written part and the Quick Placement Test. You only need to make an appointment for the oral part; you will automatically be registered for the other two parts.

An assessment consists of a 15-minute oral test with a teacher (online via Zoom), a written test of 45 minutes (on campus in a pc-room) and a computer-based test (Oxford Quick Placement Test, also on campus). The oral test will be online via Zoom, for the other two parts you will need to come to campus.

After taking the assessment, you will receive a level statement that contains information about your current level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference). A distinction will be made between your oral and written skills.

Important:

  • Please note that the writing part of the assessment (essay) has to be written without the use of any online resources (including dictionaries/ChatGPT). Therefore, this part will be proctored on campus, and you will not have access to the internet.
  • The writing section and the QPT test will both be taken on computers on campus. Make sure you know your ERNA login details, as you will need them to log in!
  • The result of the QPT test is not communicated directly to the participants. The scores are evaluated by our instructors and used as a reference to determine the result for written and oral skills.

If the assessment shows that you have not yet reached the level that is required, you could decide to register for a language course.

You need to take an assessment in case you need a level statement or certificate indicating your level in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). You can use the assessment results to prove that you meet the needed language requirements for an exchange or for your master application. You can also use it to as proof of your language proficiency for your employer.  Please make sure to always check if this test is accepted by your study programme/faculty.

An English assessment costs € 100,- and is valid for one year. After all, your language proficiency might have improved or deteriorated after one year. If you participate in an English language course within a year, 50% of the assessment costs (€ 50,-) will be refunded within 3 weeks after your course has started. Keep in mind that we do not offer all levels, and that we reserve the right to cancel a course if the required minimum number of participants is not reached.

The LTC organizes English assessments twice per year on set dates. The exact dates are published per period, but they generally take place in November and April of each year

You can register for an English assessment through the online schedule and select one of the available time slots. Please note that the schedule is only visible during the period in which you can register. For the written part and the Quick Placement test you don’t have to book an appointment, as these take place on a set date and time.

After choosing a time slot of your choice, you will need to pay for the test to finalize your registration. The payment needs to be in before the registration deadline. If we have not received your payment in time, your appointment will be canceled. You need to pay for the assessment via our web shop.

Dyslectic students can get extra time to complete the written test. To arrange this, you need to contact the LTC via email before the deadline of registration. You will also have to send a copy of your official statement of special needs.
