The Academic Outreach Programme is grounded in an evidence-based approach. In developing outreach programmes and activities, we draw upon both international and national scientific insights and best practices. We also investigate the implementation and impact of our programmes. Our research aims not only to enhance the positive societal contribution of our programme but also to contribute to a greater body of scientific knowledge on the effectiveness and mechanisms of outreach programmes.
For instance, we examine not only whether our outreach programmes have an effect, but also how they have an effect and for which children and youth, and how they are most effective. Based on our findings, we can improve our own outreach programmes and activities and offer recommendations for the development of new initiatives. We conduct scientific studies across several research themes.
Educational Equity
Educational inequality is a complex issue. The factors contributing to it are diverse, operate at different levels (e.g., child, family, school, neighborhood, society), and interact with each other. Through our research on educational equity, we aim to better understand these factors to identify key points of intervention for the outreach programmes and activities we develop and offer.
Implementation and Effectiveness of Outreach Programmes
Our research on the implementation and effectiveness of outreach programmes seeks to map out which programmes are effective, which implementation factors influence effectiveness, and for whom these programmes are effective. The goal of these studies is to further refine our offerings and achieve even greater positive impact. We use tools such as surveys, observations, focus groups, and interviews to conduct these studies.
Student Ambassadors
Our student ambassadors, who serve as role models for children and youth, are a critical component of the success of our outreach programmes. Throughout the year, our students participate in training, attend workshops, and engage in social activities. Our research on student ambassadors examines their development over the academic year and measures the effects of our training and activities. We also study the perspectives of pupils in schools —do they view our student ambassadors as role models? This research is conducted through surveys, interviews, and classroom observations.
Student Success
In our work to create more inclusive student services at EUR, it is essential to gain insight into the experiences, needs, and aspirations of the diverse student groups at our university. We conduct research on these themes through surveys, focus groups, and interviews with EUR students.
