In close collaboration (co-creation) with our partner schools and social organisations, we develop outreach programmes and activities. We work with key external and internal stakeholders, including children and youth, parents, educators, school administrators, and university students and researchers.
Each year, the outreach programmes and activities are evaluated and refined. EUR students play a critical role in our outreach work. After a careful selection and training process, our students act as student ambassadors, delivering various outreach programmes and activities in schools and across the city. As role models, they inspire participating children and youth to pursue an educational or career path that suits them. Representation matters!
We offer the following outreach programmes and activities from September through December 2024:
Children’s Lectures
Children from grades 4, 5, and 6 (primary school) attend a lecture at EUR to learn about the university, research, and the people who study and work there. They apply newly acquired research skills in a home experiment.
Study Choice Programme
This program supports high school students (grade 5, high school) in making informed study choices. Questions such as ‘What options are available?’ and ‘What suits me best?’ are addressed. Participants visit the EUR campus for a half-day programme.
Campus Exploration Activities
The campus tour and campus challenge are popular activities for children aged 10 to 12 years. The campus tour includes a route across the campus, with questions to answer at various stops. The campus challenge adds active tasks where participants can earn points.
In previous school years, we have also offered the following outreach programmes and activities:
Self-Confidence Programme
This series of lessons helps children in grade 5 (primary school) understand their (academic) self-confidence, offering strategies for growth and countering negative self-beliefs.
Learning to Learn Programme
Aimed at grade 6 students (primary school), this programme introduces various learning strategies that foster independent learning, help maintain motivation and enable students to reach their full potential.
Profile Choice Programme
This program supports grade 3 students (high school) in selecting the appropriate academic profile for high school. It addresses questions such as ‘What considerations should I make?’ and ‘How do I decide?’ Participants visit the EUR campus for a half-day programme.
Research Programme
This program assists grade 4/5/6 students (high school) in completing their research paper (Dutch: profielwerkstuk), an important research project that introduces them to academic research and prepares them for similar assignments in further studies.
AI Workshops
The AI workshop provides students aged 12 to 14 with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly digital society.
