Are you an enthusiastic professional with high levels of attention to detail and accuracy? Do you want to play a key role in the operationalisation of key open science policies? Then you are the research data steward ERIM is looking for. Come transition to an institute where open and responsible science is the norm!
Job description
The Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) is responsible for providing research support to faculty, PhD candidates and professional services staff at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).
ERIM’s support services are designed to safeguard the institutional duties of care as stipulated by the Dutch Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. These services are progressively geared towards open and responsible science norms and practices.
As the ERIM Research Data Steward, you inform, advise, and support ERIM throughout the research data life cycle (collection, management, storage, publication, and archiving) in accordance with international Research Data Management (RDM) standards. You report to the ERIM Executive Director.
Your responsibilities include:
The initiation, orchestration and active support of the institutional development of research data management workflows and best practices, to ensure the effective and client-focused organisation of research data. This ranges from the Data Management Plan (DMP) of research projects to research data curation and the selection of tools and storage solutions.
The development and delivery of training activities and (user) workshops that are tailored towards researchers' needs, including the engagement with and encouragement of the research community to participate. Additionally, you arrange management workflows and best practices, which ensure the effective and client-focused organisation of research data. Again, these range from DMP research projects to research data curation and the selection of tools and storage solutions.
The coordination of data management activities in conjunction with the relevant administrative and service departments of RSM and ESE. Additionally, you liaise with the EUR support units and mainly with Engagement & Research Services (ERS), the Digital Competence Center (DCC), the Erasmus Digitalisation & Information Services (EDIS), the EUR Library, and with ERIM's international and national stakeholders, such as project partners, funders and networks.
Job requirements
For this job, we expect you to:
support researchers with any data management-related request (e.g., storage solutions, recommended tools, data transfer protocols and research software inquiries);
support researchers when they need to develop and execute a DMP;
be involved in the ethics review process in collaboration with the Internal Review Boards (IRBs) of RSM and ESE;
work closely with various internal stakeholders within faculties and across the university, such as researchers, EUR Library, policy officers, communication officers and management team members;
proactively propose and implement projects and activities that lead to enhanced research data management; and
provide training on data management to ERIM’s research community.
You are eligible for this role when you can demonstrate:
an appropriate academic educational level (MSc or PhD in Social Sciences, Data Science or a related discipline).
a broad understanding of the research life cycle, specifically data management in all the phases of research; from planning the research to publication, and from all research outputs produced in the research to archiving those publications and outputs for verification purposes.
a broad understanding of open access, FAIR data principles, open materials, open source and open evaluation.
an interest in responsible research and how Open and Responsible Science interfaces with current research policy affairs.
Employment conditions and benefits
We offer a full-time contract for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility of a permanent contract upon satisfactory performance. We operate a hybrid working model, which gives you the freedom to work virtually and on our vibrant campus. You will be joining an international and interdisciplinary team of committed and enthusiastic research support professionals.
