Academic Lead
Derk Loorbach is Professor of Socio-economic Transitions at the Faculty of Social Science at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also the director of the Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT), a leading research institute in the field of sustainability transitions based at Erasmus University. He has developed transition management in theory and practice and is highly cited as well as impactful in working with government, business and civil society through action research.
Derk is the academic lead of DIT and has been involved over the last few years in developing the support and vision for the platform. As academic lead he is keen to help develop an institutional environment that supports transdisciplinary and transformative academic work for intrinsically motivated, critical, entrepreneurial and talented students, staff and academics. By helping to build such a community across the university and society, he aims to support the strategy of the EUR to drive positive societal impact. In his spare time, you can find Derk playing bass guitar, on Twitter, and spending time with his family.
