The ‘Ghostwriting Challenge: Write & Speak with Persuasion’ is a dynamic form of work appropriate in the context of higher education. Students act as ghostwriters and strengthen their writing and presentation skills. It also encourages the development of their communication skills through plenary discussion of speeches.

Step-by-Step
Step 1
Divide students into writing teams, paying attention to diversity (e.g. 4 teams).
Step 2
Give each team a specific assignment to ghostwrite a short speech on a substantive issue.
Step 3
The assignment includes information about who is delivering the speech, the audience and the context.
Step 4
Give the teams time to write the speech (e.g. 30 min).
Step 5
Each team shares their speech in plenary.
Step 6
Plenary discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each speech.
Step 7
Take time for feedback after the speech.
Pen and paper or a laptop. Possibly a computer if students also want to use a ppt.
