During your study

Media Studies

Developing academic and research skills

In the first term you will also work on developing your research and academic skills, such as argumentation, using academic sources and writing academic papers.

The second term focuses on improving your qualitative and quantitative research skills; you learn how to set-up a research project, conduct analyses, and report your findings.

This solid basis prepares you for the second half of the pre-master in which you conduct a research project within your field of interest. In this supervised research project, you will put the newly acquired theory, academic and research skills into practice. Together with your supervisor and your tutorial group, you will cover all aspects of research (literature review, setting up and conducting research, analysing, and presenting findings) and you will be appropriately prepared for writing your master thesis in your master specialisation.

Small-scale, but international

During the pre-master you will work in small groups with international students from all over the world. You have direct contact with the tutorial teachers, who will help you during your preparation for your master’s degree. This small-scale approach and, at the same time, international character make the pre-master Media Studies a personal and diverse steppingstone to the master specialisation of your choice.

Mentor programme

To facilitate the transition to Erasmus University, we have developed the master mentor programme. Together with a small group of fellow students, each pre-master student is assigned to a master mentor. A master mentor is a current Master Media Studies student who completed the pre-master programme the previous year. They have already gone through the entire pre-master year and can share valuable experiences and provide helpful tips. Their goal is to make the new pre-master students feel at home and make the start of their EUR-life as fun, easy, and least stressful as possible!

Personal guidance

Within the pre-master Media Studies, we value personal attention and guidance. For specific questions and advice regarding the study programme, study planning, personal circumstances, studying with a functional impairment etcetera, you can contact our student advisors, on a confidential basis.
