Workplace Pride Awards for QuEUR and Annelien Bredenoord

QuEUR board members with the Network Award at Workplace Pride Awards Gala

Last Friday, we won two awards at the Workplace Pride Impact Awards Gala. QuEUR, our network for LGBTQIA+ employees and allies working at Erasmus University Rotterdam, won the Network Award. Annelien Bredenoord, President of our Executive Board, won the Role Model Award.

With these awards Workplace Pride celebrates organisations and individuals who play an important role in the LGBTIQ+ workplace movement. It was the 11th time these awards were presented.

Role Model Award - Annelien Bredenoord

‘I feel this award is important for me personally, as well as for Erasmus University Rotterdam. Personally, I have always been very open about my sexual orientation and my modern family, with two moms, two dads, and a son. And at Erasmus University we are working hard on creating a sense of belonging for all our staff and students, and on creating an inclusive university.’ – Annelien Bredenoord

Prof. dr. Annelien Bredenoord, has been Rector Magnificus since 2021, and is the president of the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam since October 2024. She is a true inspirational leader. In her first speech at EUR, she was very open about her personal life, ‘coming out’ openly to the EUR community, in this way acting as a role model to students and staff and indirectly supporting them to be themselves and bring all their identities to work. In all of her public appearances, she champions diversity and inclusion topics, both internally and externally, and she always mentions the importance of workplace inclusion.

Network Award – QuEUR

‘Winning this award is testimony to the unwavering dedication of our voluntary board to creating a space where everyone can feel welcome and safe.’ - Nathaniël Papilaja, Chair of QuEUR

QuEUR is the network for Erasmus University’s LGBTQIA+ employees and allies, established in 2022. It is a flourishing community, counting nine board members and a vibrant group of employees that actively participate in activities of the network. QuEUR engages within and outside the university to create impact. Within the university, QuEUR organises at least four yearly well-attended events, a mix of social gatherings and content-related events. The work of the network is ‘in kind’ as no members get time allocation for these tasks. In the current times of high workload and cutbacks in academia, we consider it courageous and commendable that university employees voluntarily invest their time in QuEUR.
