Towards 100% Open Access

In the context of the Open Access week 2019 (21-27 October), the university library wants to draw attention once again to the possibilities for publishing in Open Access. The EUR policy for Open Access dates from 2011 and obliges include all scientific output in Rotterdam in the institutional repository (RePub) at the library.

The university's aim for 2020 is to go for 100% Open Access. This is not only in line with the EUR policy but also with the (inter) national agreements that have been endorsed by NWO (the Dutch Research Council).

The EUR policy requires at minimum green Open Access in RePub. Publishing in gold Open Access at the publisher is preferred.

Gold

To be able to publish in gold Open Access, the university has made (big) deals with various publishers. The costs for publishing in gold (the APCs) have been bought. To find out with which publisher which deal has, one can check the Erasmus Journal Browser.

To support the publication of articles for which no waiver, discount or other financing is available, the Library and the Erasmus MC have launched the Erasmus Open Access Fund. In 2020 the fund will also be open for request of Book Processing Costs (BPC's).

Green

For those who want to use the green route, there are two options:

• to offer the Author's Accepted Manuscript via Metis for inclusion in RePub or

• include the publisher version in Repub under the conditions of the Taverne amendment.

More information

The university library is happy to provide support for the further rollout of Open Access within the EUR. Customization per faculty, research group or individual employee is also possible.

For more information and the contact address of the Open Access team you are welcome to visit the Open Access pages of the university library.
