Thomas Piketty was a guest at Erasmus School of Economics while visiting Rotterdam for the European Job Market for Economists 2019.
Piketty has visited our campus to give a talk on his new book, Capital and Ideology, where he discusses the increasing economic inequality on a global scale.
Learning from the past
Piketty derives the causes of this increase from a wealth of historical data of various political and economic policies implemented in Europe and the United States. From the French Revolution to communism in Russia and China, he stresses that the struggle of ideologies in history need to lead to increased dialogue on topics such as progressive taxation, combatting nationalism, and increasing social mobility.
