Students work on ten-year action plans for a sustainable future

In close cooperation with the Dutch Sustainable Growth Coalition (DSGC), the Economic Faculty association Rotterdam of Erasmus School of Economics, has successfully organised an event on Woudestein campus with the title: Generational Leadership in Action, realising our sustainable future.

On 11 November, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Chairman of the DSGC, Prof. Jan Peter Balkenende, opened the event with a motivating speech, after which participating young professionals and students worked on ten-year action plans for a sustainable future, following the guidelines laid out by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals created by the United Nations.

The goal of these plans was to put options and possible solutions forward to the challenges that were outlined by members of the DSGC - AkzoNobel, DSM, The HEINEKEN Company, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, FrieslandCampina, Philips, Shell, Unilever- in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The action plans were judged by an expert CEO-Jury. Members of the jury were Edith Schippers (President DSM Netherlands), Hein Schumacher (CEO FrieslandCampina), Robert Metzke (Global Head of Sustainability at Philips), Annemarieke de Haan (CEO Unilever Benelux), Nicole van Det (Country Manager NL, Accenture), Fleur Osté (Key Account Manager at Unilever and representative of the Dutchtainables), Michiel Boots (Chief Economist Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate) and Judith Maas (Director SDG Netherlands).
