The Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has appointed Prof.dr. S. (Stefan) Sleijfer as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. His appointment will come into effect on 1 September 2021. The Supervisory Board of Erasmus MC appointed Prof. Sleijfer as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Erasmus MC with effect from the same date. Stefan Sleijfer will join the Board of Directors of Erasmus MC as a member from July 1st 2021.
Stefan Sleijfer (1970) studied medicine at the University of Groningen and subsequently obtained his doctorate at the same university. He completed his specialization as an internist-oncologist at Erasmus MC. Since completing his specialization in 2004 he works as an internist-oncologist in Erasmus MC. In 2011 he was appointed as professor and in 2013 as head of department at Erasmus MC. From 2017, he is also theme chair of Theme Daniel.
High-quality education and research essential
Sleijfer: "Given the major challenges facing healthcare, much attention needs to be paid to both the sustainability of care and the sustainability of our living environment. Research and education are essential to address these challenges. I am looking forward to contributing to this from Erasmus MC, with the combined forces of the Convergence with TU Delft and EUR. With research ranging from the smallest structures of cells to large-scale interventions in the population and their translation into the training of the healthcare professionals of the future."
