Robin Lumsdaine appointed as a member to the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board

Applied econometrician of Erasmus School of Economics, Professor Robin Lumsdaine, has been appointed for four years as a member to the Advisory Scientific Committee (ASC) at the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), starting in May 2023.

Advisory Scientific Comittee

The Advisory Scientific Committee (ASC) conducts research to inform macroprudential decisions by the General Board, ESRB’s decision-making body. The General Board is chaired by the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde. ASC membership consists of the Chair of the Advisory Technical Committee and 15 experts representing a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge related to all relevant financial markets sectors. The Committee meets at least quarterly.

The task of ASC members is to give research input and advise the general ESRB assembly (all ECB central bank governors and bank supervisors) on systemic risk matters four times a year. The ASC contributes to public debate on macroprudential policy by publishing ASC Reports and ASC Insights. Past contributions include a discussion on overbanking in the EU, a call for enhanced disclosure of carbon-intensive assets, analytical work for macroprudential stance and a report on digitalisation and the future of banking. The ASC also awards the annual Ieke van den Burg Prize for outstanding research conducted by young academics and is responsible for the ESRB Working Paper Series.
