Prof. dr. Frank van der Duijn Schouten appointed as new interim dean of Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC)

The Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam has appointed prof. dr. Frank van der Duijn Schouten as interim dean of Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) as of 24 June 2019.

Van der Duijn Schouten is an exceptionally experienced and respected administrator. He is known as someone who can build new bridges and motivate and inspire those around him. Rector magnificus Rutger Engels: “We are pleased that, with his strong ability to bring people together, Frank van der Duijn Schouten has agreed to temporarily take on this role.”

The Executive Board believes that in the years ahead, it is of strategic importance to Erasmus University to retain its strong position as a centre of education and research in the field of Social Sciences and the Humanities. The Executive Board has asked Van der Duijn Schouten to serve as interim dean of ESHCC for a term of three months. In addition, he has been charged with formulating recommendations to the Executive Board regarding advisable follow-up measures for the faculty. These recommendations will be presented no later than 1 September 2019.

Frank van der Duijn Schouten will be taking over as interim dean from prof. dr. Dymph van den Boom, who recently rounded off her consultancy assignment.

About Frank van der Duijn Schouten

Frank van der Duijn Schouten (1949), Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Decision Theory, studied mathematics, physics and astronomy at VU University Amsterdam. He was awarded a doctorate by Leiden University in 1979. Over the course of his career, Van der Duijn Schouten has held a large number of administrative positions within the higher education sector. For example, he served as rector magnificus of Tilburg University for nine years and as rector magnificus of VU Amsterdam from 2013 to 2015. Van der Duijn Schouten is currently working as interim dean of Erasmus School of Economics, a role which he will be combining with that of interim dean of ESHCC.
