Researcher Julian Schaap explains the reopening of nightlife without 1.5 metre distance in de Volkskrant. He calls it a kind of magic circle: "For a relatively small group it is a safe place; for the masses it is an escape."

Dancing together and listening to music arouses an intoxication, according to Schaap. "Oxytocin - the cuddle hormone - plays a role in this. You synchronise with others, you are more open to contacts, even if they are not your kind of people." Therefore, according to the researcher, nightlife provides new perspectives for young people in particular.
