A smashing opening show in Ahoy Rotterdam, the campus day and Night of the Songs. Almost 5,000 new students participated in the annual introduction week. During Eurekaweek, the incoming students get to know each other, the university and the city. This year there is extra attention for sustainability, inclusiveness and student wellbeing.
The programme includes a number of classic elements such as Campus Day, Cantus and the Night of the Songs. However, we have also thought about students who are not so keen on big parties. In the evening, they can sing during karaoke night, follow a cultural workshop or go laser gaming. For the sake of sustainability, all participants have been given a reusable water bottle and poncho, the menu is entirely vegetarian and they are experimenting with reusable cups.
We want you to feel at home at the EUR
This year, the well-being of students is high on the agenda. These days, many students are confronted with a lot of demands and therefore experience high mental pressure. "It is important that we look out for each other and that everyone feels welcome within our academic community," said Rector Magnificus Annelien Bredenoord in her opening speech. "We want you to feel at home at EUR. And that together we build an environment where you also dare to speak out if this is not the case, for you or for someone else. This is a right for everyone and we also count on your sound and support to guarantee this right."
Wellbeing of students
This is also evident in the programming. "We think it is very important that students feel good about themselves. That is why there is a student wellbeing corner every day. EUR professionals are present there to provide information about student wellbeing. Participants can also take a break there from the hectic schedule of the week", Eurekaweek-chairman Ty Nijbroek told newspaper AD.
