Making Student life easier - An empirical evaluation of the CONNECT mentoring programme

CLI Fellowship of Kim Ouwehand

The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project.
On this page you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Kim Ouwehand (ESSB) about an empirical evaluation of the CONNECT mentoring programme.

For our first-year students, adjustment difficulties may influence not only their academic success but also lead to mental health concerns. According to our EUR well-being report, students at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioral Sciences score high on experiencing homesickness, stress and mental health concerns. Peer mentoring programs are a great way to tackle such issues. These programs benefit not only mentees but also their mentors, offering them the chance to develop their soft skills, such as communication and leadership. Therefore, the main aim of this CLI fellowship was to evaluate this program and, based on this evaluation, to improve and develop the CONNECT mentor program. The program ran from 2020 to 2025 at ESSB.
