Madeleine Merkx reappointed as Professor of Indirect Taxes

As of 1 November 2022, Madeleine Merkx has been reappointed as Professor of Indirect Taxes at Erasmus School of Law, the chair she has held since November 2018. The chair within the Department of Law & Tax offers the opportunity to research the impact and possibilities of globalisation, digitalisation and sustainability goals within the context of indirect taxes. 

Using the chair Indirect Taxes, Merkx Merkx will continue to focus on research into developments that have (had) an impact on formal and material tax law. The research of Merkx is particularly focused on the impact of globalisation and digitalisation on indirect taxes and VAT. In addition, she researches the technological possibilities in the process of taxation and collection of indirect taxes. 

Sustainability also plays a key role in the research domain of Merkx. For example, she will focus on research into the usability of indirect taxes for reaching sustainability goals.
