On Tuesday March 19, a festive book launch was held for The Living Library – Stories from the Collections of the Erasmus University Library. The book is now on sale at the information desk in the Library, ánd in bookstores.
Lucinda Jones, director of the University Library (UL) presented the first copy to front desk staff-member Aryan Pinto Do Rosario. Professor Hanneke Takkenberg gave a preview of her chapter on the continued overrepresentation of male professors in the Netherlands. Roman Koot, librarian of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet (RLK), highlighted his contribution about the mysterious Rotterdam-based publisher Meindert Boogeardt.
Authors from the UL, the RLK and the wider EUR-community wrote chapters for the publication. The selected themes showcase the large scope of the collections stored on Campus Woudestein. Starting out with the library’s history and moving on to the economics collection, the reader will learn about the lasting influence of Jan Tinbergen, decolonization of the curriculum, and the History Didactics Collection. Shorter photospreads focus on books and objects from the special collections. Did you know that the Library depots house Surinamese poetry, historic maps of Rotterdam, and a first edition of Galileo Galilei’s Dialogue?
