The Rotterdam Architecture Prize (RAP) annually puts the spotlight on our city's best new buildings. Every year, the best projects are awarded the RAP jury prize and the RAP public prize. The presentation of the Rotterdam Architecture Award takes place during the Rotterdam Architecture Month in June.
Circular and energy-neutral
Langeveld Building was opened last November and has since become a popular place with high occupancy rates. It is also one of the most sustainable education buildings in the Netherlands.
Features include the green study environment and the wooden tree house in the atrium. By bringing nature inside, the university creates an environment that contributes to the well-being and health of students and teachers. "It is an inspiring place. People feel they are close to nature," EUR spokesperson Monique de Jongh says in the nomination video.
According to architect Paul de Ruiter, it is one of the most unique buildings in the world: "The building is ventilated by natural forces. That has not been applied on this scale anywhere in the world. The air is drawn naturally through the building without using energy."
