His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will be attending the festive Opening of the Academic Year 2014-2015 of Erasmus University Rotterdam on Monday, 1 September 2014. The occasion marks the end of the centennial celebrations of the university. Professor Hans Clevers, president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), will deliver the guest lecture.
As a souvenir of the Centennial, the King will be presented with a sculpture and with two books to celebrate 100 years of Erasmus University. The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, is to receive the results of Erasmus4Rotterdam, the anniversary year’s volunteer project. In the past year students and staff of Erasmus University have supported all sorts of projects and initiatives in Rotterdam. The theme of the centennial celebrations was ‘100 years impact’, about the impact and relevance of Erasmus University for society and the development of scientific knowledge.
Rector magnificus Professor Huibert Pols will officially open the Academic Year. Before he does so, together with board member Bart Straatman, he will present the university awards to:
