On Wednesday September 20th, 2023, the time had finally come: the students who received the good news over the summer that they would be working as student ambassadors for the Academic Outreach Programme (AOP) came together for an introduction meeting.
It was a mix of familiar faces but also many new faces who will be leading various programmes and activities for the Academic Outreach Programme this year in primary schools, secondary schools, and throughout the city of Rotterdam.
The meeting kicked off with an interactive icebreaker that allowed students and the Academic Outreach Programme team to get to know each other better. Following the icebreaker, programme manager Anne Wijtzes shared more about the IDEA Center (and her initiatives to promote an inclusive university) and about the Academic Outreach Programme. Next, student engagement officer Jacqueline Onyenze took the stage and explained how her work at IDEA Center contributes to creating an inclusive student community where all students feel welcome and at home.
Finally, experienced student ambassadors Aleksa Zivlak and Smahanne Ben Ali shared their own experiences as student ambassadors and offered tips to the new group of student ambassadors that will start themselves soon. The meeting concluded with a fun group photo. The student ambassadors continued to socialize and chat about the upcoming year over a meal after the meeting ended.
The team of the Academic Outreach Programme is looking forward to working with children and youth in Rotterdam once again. With such outstanding student ambassadors, we are confident that it will be another successful year!
