Frank van Oort to deliver Rotterdamlezing 2025: what makes Rotterdammers truly prosperous?

Frank van Oort, Professor of Urban & Regional Economics at Erasmus School of Economics, will deliver the Rotterdamlezing of 2025 on Monday, 19 May at Debatpodium Arminius. His lecture will focus on the definition of prosperity, which he prefers to describe as quality of life. He will aim to answer the question: what makes Rotterdammers genuinely prosperous and happy?

When we hear the term prosperity, we often associate it with financial wealth. Van Oort advocates a broader approach to prosperity—one that includes, among others, health and safety. In other words, prosperity should be about quality of life. In his talk, he will discuss the dilemmas we face in trying to maintain our happiness.

The Rotterdamlezing will take place on Monday, 19 May at Debatpodium Arminius from 19:00 until 20:00. The event is in Dutch. Admission is free, but registration is required through the website.
