The Student Wellbeing Festival 2021 took place on campus last November. Students were welcomed in person and online to attend workshops, play games, have fun, relax, and meet other students. The event was featured in the national media and resulted in a now semi-permanent pop-up Living Room and information point on Woudestein campus.

Highlights of the two weeks included keynote speeches and Q&As with famous speakers such as Thijs Launspach (author of the book Fokking druk), and topmodel and influencer Loiza Lamers (you can rewatch her interview here until January 2022), along with sports activities, workshops dedicated to self-development and dealing with the challenges of life. The festival aimed to offer something for everyone; wellbeing does not just have one face, and the Student Wellbeing team wanted to ensure that the various aspects of wellbeing, from mental, social, physical, to cognitive and spiritual, were all covered during the event. Missed it, and curious about what went down? You can see the outline here.

In the pop-up Living Room and Information point, students had the chance to relax, meet other students, and get more information about the support services on offer at EUR. The pop-up Living Room was opened by none other than the Rector Magnificus, Annelien Bredenoord, who delivered a speech on the place of student wellbeing at EUR, emphasizing that the university is making the shift from a focus on academic success to student success.

A success amongst students

From the 8th until the 19th of November, a total of 1341 students popped into the pop-up Living Room. Out of the surveyed students, 97% expressed that the festival helped and boosted their wellbeing or personal development, and 99% wanted a permanent living room like the pop-up in a central location on campus. The Student Wellbeing program listened; the pop-up Living Room is opening again as from next week, every day from 12:00 to 17:00.

In the news

The festival also attracted the likes of the national media. The pop-up Living Room was featured in the NOS Journaal on the 11th of November, with an interview with academic lead Danielle Remmerswaal and a few Erasmus students (which you can watch it here, from 10min22). The Student Wellbeing program leader, Rianne van der Zanden, was interviewed by the OCW (read it here), and student assistant Merve Demir gave a radio interview that you can listen to below.
