ESHPM wins Vide Publication Award 2018

On 17 January 2019, Annemiek Stoopendaal (assistant professor at ESHPM) and Martin de Bree (Academic Researcher at RSM) won the Vide Publication Award for their article ‘De- and Recoupling and Public Regulation’, published in Organization Studies. This paper is based on ethnographic research conducted in the Academic Collaboration for Research on Regulation of the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ). The authors describe how a new form of supervision offers possibilities for ensuring that policy and execution are better aligned (recoupling).

Vide is the professional association for supervision, inspection, enforcement and evaluation. The professional jury, consisting of prominent people from this specialist field, prof. Femke de Vries, prof. Judith van Erp en prof. Inge de Wolf found the research-based paper of De Bree and Stoopendaal ‘of a high scientific quality and at the same time original and creative.’

Among the 22 entries, the work of Josje Kok MSc (PhD Candidate), prof. Ian Leistikow (researcher) and prof. Roland Bal (full professor) was also nominated. With their article ‘Patient and family engagement in incident investigations’ they came in second. The article by Kok, Leistikow and Bal provides insight into the daily practices behind the policy of the Inspectorate to increase the involvement of patients and families in serious incident investigations. The authors show that patients or their families are involved more often, but not as an equal partner to learn from.
