On Wednesday 12 October 2017 Erasmus School of Economics had the honor to welcome David McCawley, Consul General of the United States of America in Amsterdam, and Tom Coleman, Chief of the economics unit at the US Embassy in The Hague. McCawley and Coleman were invited by the professors Julian Emami Namini and Maarten Bosker. Approximately 500 students participated in this inspiring guest lecture, which was co-hosted by the Economics Faculty Association, EFR.
In his lecture the US Consul General David McCawley identified the warm ties between the Netherlands and the United States, which have been important for both economies for over more than 400 years. As a follow up on his speech students had the opportunity to ask questions, amongst others about the TTIP trade agreement between the EU and the US, the US sanctions on Ukraine and about the increasing polarization not only in the US but in Europe as well.
As a token of appreciation David McCawley was presented the School’s sweater, of which he referred to in his opening words: ‘I wear this sweater with great pride,in Amsterdam (!)’.
