CSC fellowship grant for New Media and Health Communication research project

Lei Yang has received a CSC fellowship for her research project New Media and Health Communication. The promotor for this PhD research project is prof. dr. Jeroen Jansz.

The fellowship is financed by the China Scholarship Council. The project was developed in collaboration with Dr. Yuping Mao (California S.U., Long Beach, USA) and will be executed within ERMeCC.

This PhD project aims at exploring ethnic minorities’ health communication in the Northwest of China with a focus on so called 'new' media. The project will survey the current health communication status of ethnic minority groups, as well as examine health information seeking and diffusion through media and social networks in ethnic minority communities. The research has the potential to shed new light on health communication in China and provide practical suggestions to improve health communication effectiveness among ethnic minority members with different social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
