BAM Bouw en Techniek officially handed over the keys to the new multipurpose education building to Erasmus University Rotterdam on Friday 28 October. Following this formal contract moment, the department of Real Estate & Facilities will do some final preparations so that on November 1, the building can open for its intended purpose: teaching, meeting and studying.
Final preparations
Over the past few weeks a lot of effort has already been made to get the building ready for use. The furniture was moved in, digiboards were connected, study places were set up and the coffee machines were installed. There is also a water tap on every floor and a vitamin wall on the first floor with healthy snacks, to satisfy your hunger.
Lush greenery
What characterizes the building is how green it is. Wherever you are in the building, you'll see greenery. Research shows that nature and a green environment are good for the performance and well-being of employees and students.
The greenery is watered with rainwater collected in water buffer bins on the roof. These bins, made of recycled materials, work even when it's raining heavily. They collect part of the water, reducing the burden on the sewer system.
This is just one example of all the sustainable elements in the building. It is the second most sustainable education building in the Netherlands, and we are very proud of that!
"All the greenery, wood and natural light makes you feel like you're in nature in this building. I think students will be very happy with this!"
