The aim of the Comenius Programme is to help teaching staff put their ideas to innovate education into practice. The programme offers grants to Teaching Fellows, Senior Fellows and Leadership Fellows. The Fellows are distinguished on the basis of their experience and the extent of their impact on education.
Brigitte Hoogendoorn, Assistant Professor in Applied Economics at Erasmus School of Economics, won the 2020 Comenius Senior Fellowship for education innovation for her project called ‘Learning Menu’. This project aims to differentiate small-scaled education in the Dutch and international Bachelor programmes Economics and Business Economics.
What made you decide to submit a Comenius application?
"What is normal for top research is also for top education! Moreover, this helps to expand your network with other innovative education professionals outside the context of the EUR. Everyone can benefit from that!"
How did the application process work for you?
"The process is long and requires good coordination, especially for the financial substantiation. It sharpens your thoughts well."
Why is educational innovation important to EUR?
"Education is our primary task, we owe quality education to our students, innovative top education in which we can distinguish ourselves."
Do you have any other tips for colleagues who are considering an application?
"Create a reading group around you from different levels: people with experience with Comenius, outsiders and stakeholders. Regularly ask for feedback to sharpen your story especially of people you know they are critical."
