Berend Jan Udink (1926 - 2016)

Berend Jan Udink (1926 - 2016), an alumnus of the Erasmus School of Economics (1952), would have rather become an artist than an executive board chairman/corporate worker. After having had a career in the Chamber of Commerce of Rotterdam and a teacher at the Economic College of Rotterdam, he became Minister of Development Cooperation. He continued as the party leader for the Christian Historical Union (CHU), presenting himself as a conservative and a ‘law and order’ politician. After an unsuccessful run, Mr. Udink went back to painting, mainly drawing deserted areas in bright colours.

‘When painting, to me, it’s all about transferring the tragic feelings of life onto the canvas’ – Berend J. Udink
