Anne Gielen appointed as Academic Partner CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis

As of 1 October 2024, CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis has appointed Professor Anne Gielen of Erasmus School of Economics as Academic Partner.

As an academic partner, Anne Gielen will contribute to CPB’s Labour programme with scientific research. CPB benefits from this partnership because it strengthens the scientific rigor of CPB's research and ensures that their policy recommendations are grounded in robust academic insights, helping shape economic policies in the Netherlands.

Research on labour market issues and social policy

Anne Gielen is Professor of Labour Economics and Policy at Erasmus School of Economics. Her research is characterised by a unique combination of addressing the big questions of life, being highly politically relevant, and being empirically rigorous. Gielen is best known for her research on labour market issues and social policy. Her work focuses on the effects of unemployment, labour market dynamics, and the influence of policy on labour participation, especially among vulnerable groups such as the long-term unemployed, the low-skilled, and migrants.

Her work is published in top general interest journals (e.g., The American Economic Journal – Economic Policy and The American Economic Journal – Applied Economics, and top field journals such as the Journal of Human Resources and Journal of Health Economics).
