Often software is being seen only as a handy tool for doing research, while it is actually an integral part of much research being done at EUR. Not only does it matter which software to use, but also to log how it has been used and whether this process is open and transparent for others.

About the event
During this event, researchers from the EUR showcase their self-made research software in flash-talks with ample room for Q&A. How did they do it? What are the benefits of creating your own software? Are there also cons to it and what can you learn from their pitfalls?
The event starts with a presentation by the Netherlands eScience Center on the importance of research software and tips and tricks to responsibly use technology.
Speakers
Amongst others:
- Alessia Gebauer (ESHCC): When it comes to de-westernizing academic work, people are quick to find excuses - often disguising laziness as complexity. In academia we tend to focus on just the big-picture ideas but often ignore the practical barriers to entry. This project demonstrates how we can remove our own barriers to software development in an effort to remove our barriers to inclusion.
- Jasper Op De Coul (University Library): On Summa software, a long-life tool in an ever changing software landscape for exploratory data analysis that is customized for and with each researcher.
- Lieke de Boer (eSciencecenter): Beyond Methods Sections: Why Research Software and Code Sharing Matter.
- Michel van de Velden (ESE): Getting others to use your novel, groundbreaking, advanced and superior methodology.
- Jeffrey Durieux (ESE): From Idea to Impact: Building an Open-Source Software Package.
- Tung Tung Chan (ERS, research intelligence): Moderation.
