On Thursday, 9 September 2022, S. Amarakoon will defend his PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration: Insights Into Treatment’.
Dissertation in short:
Intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF are the best course of treatment of exudative age related macula degeneration. Bevacizumab is currently the first choice of anti-VEGF in the Netherlands. It is the most cost effective option at the moment. In our research we examined the feasibility of less frequent treatment strategies with bevacizumab. And as our papers show, it is possible to treat patients in a fixed and on-demand treatment strategy from 4 to 8 weeks with similar end results.

The public defence will begin exactly at 10.30 hrs. The doors will be closed once the public defence starts, latecomers may be able to watch on the screen outside. There is no possibility of entrance during the first part of the ceremony. Due to the solemn nature of the ceremony, we recommend that you do not take children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
