Throughout the centuries, disasters have had an enormous impact on societies, cultures, and the course of history. Devastating natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, and man-made catastrophes such as industrial disasters have left deep marks in collective memory and have shaped the course of history. During this conference, we will explore how these profound events have contributed to the formation of local and national identities, how societies respond to crises, and how resilience and innovation are often born out of necessity.

We will study the causes and consequences of historical disasters, compare different perspectives and interpretations, and reflect on the role of chance and human action in history. We will explore new approaches to teaching these events, with attention to innovative teaching methods and the use of sources in the classroom.

You are cordially invited to participate in this conference. The conference will take place on Friday March 14 at Sound & Vision in Hilversum! Note that the conference will be in Dutch!
