Are you full of out-of-the-box ideas and surprising solutions? And do you have a passion for creativity and innovation? Then we are looking for you…
Alert: you cannot register anymore for this event
However, we will organize a new Innovation Jam in September. Stay tuned to the event-page of the CLI for updates.
The background
We live in a rapidly changing society, just think of digitization and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. This means that as a university you must innovate to remain relevant now and in the future. But what does the future of education look like?
Many questions go through our mind. Can we find more flexible ways to balance online and offline education? Do we need to explore the Metaverse for new education alternatives, Mixed Reality media or perhaps gamify education? And what will the jobs of the future look like? How can we organize education for those jobs of the future? Issues where everyone has their own ideas of expectations. For sure you too! Whatever it might be for you, we want you to create your version of the future of education.
That is why the Community for Learning & Innovation is organizing an Innovation Jam at the university on 19 and 20 May.
Together with enthusiastic fellow students you will dive into inspiring brainstorming sessions to develop out-of-the-box ideas and surprising solutions to one of the three challenges. To finish the last day with a pitch where you get the chance to convince the jury of your advice to the university!
Make sure to be creative with your proposals but also to think about possibilities to implement your ideas in a real context of education.
Your aim
To pitch a proposal with your team that solves any of the three education challenges
Your gain
You will learn to address complex dilemmas around education and make a proposal that contributes to its solution.
During the event you will train your communication, creativity, problem solving, and design thinking skills among many others
You will have the opportunity to present your proposal in front of renowned education leaders of the EUR, and will get an opportunity to have your proposal flourish into your own entrepreneurship.
You will be provided with material for you to be creative and bring disrruptive and impactful ideas into life.
You will have a lot of fun, meet a lot of people, share your ideas, and compete for amazing career building opportunities.
The three challenges
Of course, we can't give you too much information on the challenges in advance since it’s up to you and your team to come up with creative solutions during the Innovation jam. But we can lift a tip of the veil on the topics!
What value does it have for you to study at a university? Because of the changing learning environments, way of assessing and achieving knowledge, the way society looks at education is changing as well. What has value and how do we see this for the (near) future? How would we assess this? Is assessment even necessary? What impact does it have on your degree if students are committing fraud? How should the university balance between trust in students, and preventing fraud?
You are learning and developing yourself towards a job of the future. But the question is; what will the jobs of the future look like? And how can we organize education for those jobs of the future? Even better, how do you want education for the jobs of the future to be organized? What do you need as a student? How can we as a university ensure that you as a student remain flexible and that you can continue to adapt with your knowledge to the changing society?
In the past couple of years education has shifted to online platforms due to the most recent pandemic. Now, we see the possibility to go back to offline education. But what do we need to make sure to make a transition that keeps students motivated in their studies? Your challenge during this Innovation Jam is to define strategies that will allow education to easily adapt to these dynamic situations.
It is possible to let us know in advance if you have a preference to tackle any of the three challenges above. Keep in mind the following four indicators while making your decision and to get the best out of your project.
What motivates you to make a change for education? Think about your individual needs and ambitions.
What motivates the community of students? Think about the needs and ambitions of the community.
What does education need today, and for the future? On a more particular approach, what does the university need?
What's the importance of skills, learning and education? How can we relate this to Rotterdam, or to society?
