Text 'Stay curious' and magnifying glass

EdUconnect is where the EUR community comes together to share knowledge and inspire each other. Where we translate ideas into opportunities within education. Discuss developments within education together with teachers, students and anyone interested in educational innovation.

The theme of EdUconnect 2024 is Stay Curious! Curiosity is needed to move education forward and a curious attitude helps us understand and learn from each other. Will we see you on 30 May? 🔍

Theatre

STAY CURIOUS - A theatrical and interactive presentation by Theatre Group PlayBack

EdUconnect starts with a show by theatre group PlayBack. Through catchy and relatable scenarios, they provide insight and tips on fruitful interactions between students and teachers. Miscommunication, differing views, and having different modes of interaction can get in the way of understanding between student and teacher. How do you, as a teacher, stay curious about students' perceptions and how can you continue to support students in developing their (academic) identity? And what is your role as a student?

Workshops/sessions

Follow one of the seven workshops/sessions, where enthusiastic colleagues will introduce you to their topic. Below you will find more information about the content and what you can learn. You can register directly for the session you are interested in using the registration form.

The challenges in all levels of education are big. How do you keep students motivated? How do you ensure that sufficient knowledge and skills are taught? How do you deal with the lightning-fast developments around us? Technology is often used as a solution to educational challenges.

In the "Living Education Lab" Minor, we teach students to use Design Thinking to find the right solution to the right problem, and to put LEARNING at the centre, not the technology itself. Learn about our 'fails and successes', and experience some hands on activities from our Design Thinking Toolbox! No devices required!

Kris Stabel / Daniel Lutley

This session is facilitated by Kris Stabel and Daniel Lutley. Kris Stabel is deputy director and educational consultant at Risbo and education innovation theme leader at the CLI. Daniel Lutley is a student at Erasmus University College (EUC).

We live in uncertain times and seem to be lost against the future. Wars are back and pollute academic debates, AI is threatening education, Global Warming might kill us all... What if there was a way to think about the future to create positive outcomes instead of just crossing fingers and finding shelter in social media? Join us for a workshop on Futures studies, a discipline recently introduced at EUR to help design better futures for all.

Étienne Augé

This session is facilitated by dr. Étienne Augé. Étienne Augé is principal lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication, Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC).

How can flipped-classroom teaching help us to diversify our education to large groups of students with different backgrounds and needs? During this interactive workshop, you will learn how a combination of knowledge clips, quizzes and classroom activities can help to achieve this goal. You will also learn how this hybrid approach opens the door to fruitful use of data analytics to guide and evaluate your course.

Peter Marks & Pieter Tuytens

This workshop is facilitated by dr. Peter Marks and dr. Pieter Tuytens. Peter Marks is associate professor at the Department of Public Administration, Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB). Pieter Tuytens is assistant professor at ESSB.

You want to get rid of the thesis in your program? But are worried you cannot assure students meet all the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)? We will show you how to do this!

We will introduce to you the ILO monitor, which gives students, lecturers and program management direct feedback on the performance of a student, a cohort, and a course towards achieving each individual ILO.

In this workshop we will showcase the monitor and the insights and feedback it provides. We will challenge workshop participants on the thesis as a holy grail, but also look forward to discussing what the benefits and possible uses of the more detailed ILO-level feedback would be.

Bas Donkers and Pieter Schoonees

This workshop is facilitated by prof.dr. Bas Donkers and dr. Pieter Schoonees. Bas Donkers is a professor of marketing research at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Pieter Schoonees is a lecturer and academic director at the Econometric Institute of ESE.

Changing a programme is hard, but does it have to be? At the Erasmus School of Philosophy, we are in the process of redeveloping our bachelor programmes. We have chosen a bottom-up, fast-tracked, team-based approach. During this workshop we share our insights on how we set up this process to avoid a strenuous bureaucratic journey. But context matters, curiosity is key, and therefore, having an open dialogue is crucial. This workshop is a starting point to bring back enjoyment in realising your educational dreams!

Marie van der Gaag, Jamie van der Klaauw

This workshop is facilitated by Marie van der Gaag and Jamie van der Klaauw. Marie van der Gaag is policy officer education at Erasmus School of Philosophy (ESPhil). Jamie van der Klaauw is a PhD student at ESPhil.

We invite you to our workshop, 'Respectful Dialogues: Building Connections and Integrating AI for Enhanced Learning.' In this interactive session, we will explore the art of developing deep connections between teachers and students, with a special focus on the power of personal stories and shared curiosity for each other. Learn about how the interpersonal aspect of stories can transform our classrooms into more humane and collaborative spaces, fostering a safe learning environment. Also, gain insights on how we leveraged AI technology as a tool for an enriched learning experience in this setting. We are looking forward to welcoming you!

Sonja Wendel and Bram Horstink

This workshop is facilitated by dr. Sonja Wendel and Bram Horstink. Sonja Wendel is assistant professor at Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Bram Horstink is senior learning & innovation consultant at ESE.

Online and blended learning methods are increasingly used in higher education. However, it's crucial to consider the impact of this shift on teachers and how we can support them through this transition. In this workshop, I'll delve into the experiences of the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management with the implementation of an online pre-master program. We'll then collaboratively explore strategies to support teachers at your institutions when implementing online and blended teaching methods, ensuring they maintain enjoyment and fulfillment in their work.

Welmoed van Deen

This workshop is facilitated by dr. Welmoed van Deen. Welmoed van Deen is an assistant professor at Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM).

Inspiration fair

After the sessions, you can enjoy a lunch entirely in the theme Stay curious! Network with other attendees and walk around the inspiration fair, where you can find out all about innovative projects within EUR. For example, you can learn all about curriculum innovation and Case Based Learning at the Erasmusarts 2030 stand, talk about the Critical World Citizenship theme project at the TeachEUR stand, and get an update on Erudite: the secure chatbot for EUR. You can also find out more about edubadges, MicroLabs, CLI Fellowships (research), Erasmus Verbindt, innovation projects, Impact at the Core, LifeVersity and UNIC.
