Research Fellowship at KU Leuven

Julien Kloeg has begun a two-month research fellowship at KU Leuven at the start of Q1. Following an open call, Julien was selected as a fellow of RIPPLE (Research in Political Philosophy and Ethics Leuven), which is one of Europe’s largest research centers in political philosophy and related fields, offering workshops, colloquia, reading circles and an inspiring research environment. Julien will be working on his monograph on depoliticization and continuing existing research on the philosophy of education and the public sphere. While in Leuven, he is staying at the historical Groot Begijnhof.

The vital importance of nature and biodiversity

As part of the International Day of Biodiversity (22 May) and the launch of the Public Platform Biodiversity Rotterdam, Professor Kees Vink recorded a video presentation on behalf of the Natural History and Erasmus University College entitled 'The vital importance of nature and biodiversity'. In the presentation, Kees emphasizes the importance of nature for our own survival and that we must give nature a greater place in our immediate living environment, especially in the city. Sustainable projects are essential, but above all they must also be nature-inclusive, so that we can guarantee the future of flora and fauna as well as humans. Watch the lecture here (Dutch audio).

Rising up against inequality in academia

On International Women's Day dr. Ginie Servant-Miklos lead a round table discussion regarding the increase of inequality in the academic field. Semiha Denktas and Hanneke Takkenberg answered questions, share best practices to stop those patterns in the workplace.

Mini lecture: Role of a city biologist in Rotterdam

Prof. dr. Kees Vink (Head of Life Sciences at EUC) gave a mini-lecture on Erasmus Studio about the role of a city biologist in Rotterdam. You can watch it here (Dutch Audio).

Prof. dr. Vink is an endowed chair with title From Big Natural History to Urban Ecology. The lecture covered topics from moss to nitrogen and the importance of green urban areas and nature for the benefit of human health.
