Meet your new student representative – Ellie

Each year the EUC management team chooses a student representative. In this article we talk with Ellie – the student rep for the 2024/2025 academic year. Read on to learn more about her and the role.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Ellie, I’m South Korean but grew up internationally. I’m 20 years old and a neuroscience major. This year I’m also the Management Team Student Representative.

Why did you decide to take this role?

I love being engaged in the community. Last year I was the first-year representative of SAAC, and I wanted to continue being involved. I wanted to be connected and a source that can really help people out and represent the student body.

What do you do as a student representative in the management team?

The Management Team is composed of Matthew (the Managing Director), Gera (Director of EUC & Educational Director) and me. In the broader picture I am the voice of the student body within the team. In practice, as the management team, we have a meeting every 2 weeks to go through the agenda of pressing issues. The points range from finances to improving the campus or student life. My task is to represent the student perspective and stand up for the student body when discussing each point.

What’s the difference between EUCSA, SAAC and student rep?

EUCSA is great to approach when it comes to anything student life related. SAAC is your source of academic support. When it comes to my role, you can direct a question of any topic. The advantage is that I have direct contact with the MT so I can bring up the issues during our meetings and get a quick response.

What are some of the initiatives you’d like to pick up in your role?

I’m looking forward to communicating what students need from small things like comfortable chairs or silent area but also bigger matters such as curriculum suggestions and cooperation between students. The little things really do matter even though they sound trivial.

How can you help other students as a student representative?

Since we’ve just started meeting, I’m working on setting up communicating channels. I’m very approachable if you ever see me around or reach me through my student email: 658121hh@student.eur.nl.

I want to make sure that all students of all years know about me and that I’m a point of contact.
