Alumna Social Inequalities

After I finished my bachelor's degree, I travelled for a few months and then started working. However, after a while, it began to make me want to start a master's programme. Social inequality has always been a subject that has caught my attention. It is always there, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes less visible. During conversations, I noticed that I lacked specific knowledge about social inequality to express myself properly. To give me more insight and knowledge about the causes and consequences of social inequality, I started with the master Social Inequalities. Once I started the master, it became apparent that social inequality is everywhere: in the news, tv programmes, at work, in education, in conversations with colleagues, friends and family. From that moment on, I never looked at the world the same way again.

What I liked most about this master's is the way the knowledge is transferred and applied. Through the lectures and the literature, you can immerse yourself in the various theories and perspectives related to social inequality. During the tutorials, you actively apply the knowledge through assignments. This way, the theory became lively, and you got an idea of how to apply it to specific cases. In addition, the student's educational background was very diverse (economics, health, sociology, etc.), which meant that subjects were often discussed from different perspectives.

During the master's, you mainly write papers about a certain subject, but you are free to do as you please. This means that during the programme, you can specialize in a topic that interests you. Moreover, the teachers are very enthusiastic and involved, making you feel welcome in this master's programme right away!
