The best lesson after all: you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to if you take the first step and jump in at the deep end.

Student at the ESSB

I had always lived in the countryside, having cows and horses as neighbors, being surrounded by sunflower fields, hiking trails, and the smell of cow dung. While I had the most beautiful time growing up, the older I got, the more I wondered what it’s like to live in a big city.

After graduating from high school, I was ready for a greater life change. Choosing the Netherlands and EUR was easy: My dad’s family is Dutch, so we often went to the Netherlands for weekend trips - getting some beach sun, shopping on Sundays, eating Pannekoeken and Bitterballen. I first came to Rotterdam on a class trip in grade 9, and I was amazed by how modern and artistic the architecture was. Living in this beautiful city for three years made me love both the metropolitan touch and the city's natural side with its parks, lakes, and forests.

At the beginning of my studies, the interactive PBL approach, sports clubs, and activities hosted by the university made it easy to build friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime. Be aware that the excellent international reputation of EUR is not by chance - some courses can be very challenging. You will have to dare yourself and set your goals higher and higher every step along the way. But that’s ultimately the best lesson of it all: you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to if you take the first step and jump in at the deep end
