I believe that this program is suitable for students and professionals who want to understand better how societies, governments, and democracies work, how to look at policy design from different perspectives, and how to better identify social challenges no matter where you are.

Anel Oribio

Student Governance and Management in the Public Sector

I studied International Relations in Mexico and that made me more curious about how the national and the international spheres are connected in different contexts. After gaining some professional experience I also understood that the connection I was curious about required consistency in efforts, diversity in actors, and management of multiple sources of information and resources. Then I realized that choosing this specific master would allow me to have the necessary tools to help society to connect and procure with each other, make policies more reachable, and understand better how interactions and global challenges can be handled from every government level.

This master has taught me how to embrace complexity and diversity in social global challenges, to pay closer attention to interactions between social actors, to be more critical with information, to strive for better institutions, and to appreciate clearer how each of us can contribute to society by engaging in collaborative efforts.

Coming to Erasmus University meant stepping out of my comfort zone. It challenged me to broaden perspectives by listening to different points of view from fellow students, professors, and professional guests; to learn a new social science; to be quicker in adapting to a new country and a new system, and to look to challenges with a fresh perspective.

After finishing my masters, I would like to be involved in projects that aim to make and impact on global challenges such as natural resources management, governance, international development cooperation or local development.

I believe that this program is suitable for students and professionals who want to understand better how societies, governments, and democracies work, how to look at policy design from different perspectives, and how to better identify social challenges no matter where you are. All of this in a very fast-paced year.

Finally, living in Rotterdam has been an amazing experience with the help of my bike. I find the city (and the country) full of small details that make you feel, little by little, more curious about the Dutch culture.
