Virtual reality for behavioral research
EBL has a high-quality virtual reality lab for in-depth psychological research on sensory perception, multi-sensory integration, emotions and attention. Virtual reality lab was festively opened in 2022 by rector magnificus of the university, Prof. Dr. Annelien Bredenoord.
Virtual reality lab specs:
EBL virtual reality lab consists of two setups with HTC ViveProEye headsets. ViveProEye supports motion tracking (location, G-sensor, Gyroscope) and has built-in eye tracking from Tobii. The headset hangs on a super powerful VR computer with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. Virtual reality set is placed in a 5x5 meter space, where 2 motion tracking base stations are installed. For our pilots with VR we have used the SteamVR engine so far. We use the Unity programming language for programming VR experience. Virtual reality system is connected to a Biopac measuring system for biofeedback. Various markers and triggers can be sent to Biopac from within the virtual reality environment.
