Education’s task is primarily to remove obstacles, rather than to communicate an élan, to lift a veil rather than to shed light.
Henri Bergson
Education is not about filling a bucket but about lighting a fire.

The structure of a school aims to structure your learning process, but can also become an obstacle in that process. On behalf of Erasmus School of Philosophy we are (action) researching the obstacles you have experienced during your Philosophy Bachelor program and are looking for ways of doing philosophy education otherwise. The intention is to let the co-modification (contra commodification) of student and structure light the fire of philosophy.
We are therefore looking for students from all years of the BA programs. Students who recently dropped out of a program are also wholeheartedly invited to participate.
We would like to invite you to participate on two occasions (free of charge):
- Open session: June 6
- Summer school-not-school: week 30 (24-28 July) or 31 (31 July-4 August)
The open session (2-3 hours) consists of a conversation about your experiences with obstacles in your learning process. The outcomes of this session will inform the plans for the summer school, which will be a five-day program aimed at doing philosophy your way.
If you are interested in participating, please fill in this short form: https://forms.office.com/e/cUB968RhAj.
The exact dates will be determined on the basis of the forms that are filled in before May 28. We also ask you to share some short experiences in the form, which can be elaborated on during the open session. The form closes on June 1st.
Filling in the form is still without obligation or guarantee. Depending on the amount of respondents, we will determine the possibilities and limitations later. But keep in mind that if you want to participate in the summer school, we recommend to partake in the open session.
We cannot give away the location of the summer school yet, but expect an academic summer vibe.
