Professor Vincent Blok has been appointed as professor of Philosophy of Data Science and AI at the Erasmus School of Philosophy. In his part-time appointment, Blok will work with colleagues and students to study, among other themes, the philosophical, ethical and social aspects of data science, artificial intelligence, the circular economy and climate change.
To this end, a research facility will be developed in which joint research on data science-driven technologies can be conducted. Blok bases his research on core themes of Erasmus University: responsible research and innovation and the combination of fundamental philosophical questions with interdisciplinary dialogue and social interaction, at both the Dutch and European level.

Vincent Blok is professor in Philosophy of Technology and Responsible Innovation at the Wageningen University and scientific director of the 4TU Centre for Ethics of Technology, a collaboration of the four Technical Universities in the Netherlands. In his work, he reflects on disruptive technologies from a continental philosophical perspective. His books include Heidegger’s Concept of philosophical Method (Routledge, 2019); The Critique of Management. Toward a Philosophy and Ethics of Business Management (Routledge, 2021) and From World to Earth. Philosophical Ecology of a threatened Planet (Boom, 2022 (in Dutch).
