The focus of our research is on early Enlightenment, notably the history of philosophy in the Dutch Republic (Erasmus, Descartes, Spinoza), studied in close connection the history of the broader scientific, political, theological and religious contexts in which Dutch philosophy flourished. Over the years we have produced a steady stream of papers, edited volumes, monographs and text editions relating to such authors as Erasmus, Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, and Bayle. In addition, we develop important links with contemporary issues and challenges, focussing on the roots of racism and the Erasmus of Rotterdam Research Centre (focussing on Erasmian values in the context of the EUR strategy).
