Biography
Bernadette Kester (1959) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University. Her teaching and research activities lie in the fields of journalism studies, media and representation, and film history. Her current research examines the representation of foreign news in Dutch and European media and the position and role of foreign correspondents.
Bernadette Kester holds an MA degree in History and received her PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1998. Her dissertation concerned the representation of World War I in German movies during the Weimar period. After her doctorate, she has lectured at various institutions,including the Amsterdam International School for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Media and Culture Studies Department of the University of Amsterdam. From 2000 to 2004, she worked as a research fellow for the Dutch Royal Institute for Military History. In 2004, she joined the Media Department in Rotterdam.
Bernadette Kester is a former board member of the Dutch Association for Audiovisual History (GBG) and she presently serves on the editorial board of Tijdschrift voor Mediageschiedenis, the Dutch Journal for Media History.
