Conversations with others are the source of inspiration for Sandra Phlippen, the new chief economist of ABN Amro. Therefore, the infamous latecomer likes to host large, and legendary parties.
What is the best way to defend yourself against the temptations of Black Friday? 'Bring cash. You will make more conscious choices when you don't use your debit card, and you will reach your limit faster, so you just spend less.'
As figurehead of ABN Amro, she is expected to translate complicated economic problems into everyday language. She also needs to be able to take a stand, and not be mealy-mouthed. Phlippen fits this description perfectly. She is not afraid to descend to the lowest level in her public appearances: that of our wallet. This combination of academic skills and effortless presentations in front of the public doesn't appear very often.
