Providing free tax advice as a student

At the end of February, the ‘favourite’ letter of many Dutch people is sent again, the ‘blauwe envelop’ (blue envelope). This means that it is time for the annual tax return. Bas van de Reep was interviewed by RTL Late Night about his voluntary work at the ‘Belastingwinkel’. Besides his bachelor’s degree in Fiscal Economics, Bas is treasurer at Stichting Belastingwinkel Rotterdam, where he and other volunteers help people fill in their tax returns.

Stichting Belastingwinkel Rotterdam provides free tax advice to the poor and insolvent residents of Rotterdam and its surrounding area, including The Hague. Last year, with the help of 600 volunteer students in tax economics and tax law from Erasmus University Rotterdam, they were able to help over 4,000 people. They look forward to the new tax return season with great pleasure and hope to send everyone home with a satisfied feeling.
